Explore the Ocean

Let's learn about the different zones of the oceans on our planet!

The ocean has different layers.  Click on the pictures to get a larger look at each zone!

Sunlit Zone

Twilight Zone

Midnight Zone

The sunlit zone begins with the shore, where ocean animals can come in and out of the ocean.  Once in the water, the sunlit zone includes places where the sun comes through the ocean.  It's a great zone for snorkeling!

The twilight zone begins when animals and other living creatures move deeper into the ocean.  Here, you may find large schools of brightly colored or glowing fish. Scientists begin to explore these deeper waters with ocean machines.

The midnight zone is the deepest, darkest part of the ocean.  Here you'll find the ocean floor, possibly even with shipwrecks!  You can also find underwater mountains and volcanoes, and animal and plant life that can survive in this environment.
